Bukima Patrol Post Refurbished
Bukima Patrol post is one of the locations where we start our mountain gorilla treks to the magnificent silverback in its natural habitat in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The camp has been in existence for about five years now and has been used as a research post before. Now however the camp has been redone and makes an excellent place to spend the night before heading out to visit the gorillas of Virunga National Park early in the morning.
The tents have been renovated, with new grass roofs and bamboo protection on the side, all built with local materials and local labour. A new management assures fresh sheets and general improved conditions in the camp. A toilet has been installed and a (cold) shower is also available.
In a laid back atmosphere you can now enjoy a dinner and breakfast in the old paillote where you can also get a drink from our quaint little bar. During all of this you can enjoy one of the most stunning views of Virunga, 4 volcanoes lined up perfectly: Karisimbi, Mikeno, Nyiragongo and the Nyamulagira. At clear nights the view of the glowing Nyamulagira is a sight never to forget.
